In Sea of Thieves players play the role of buccaneers and engage in various pirate activities, swimming in the seas and oceans, searching for treasures and fighting monsters and other pirates. The game has no ambition to be a deadly serious production, and life under the black flag has been treated with a tongue in cheek.
The action of the game is set in an open world, where we can move freely, both on foot and on ships, and the events are shown from the player's eyes. The game has a sandbox character and does not set a specific goal for the participants. While playing, we can concentrate on various main and side activities, performing missions for a selected faction. The basis of the game are joint expeditions of players and ship management, during which each member of the crew is responsible for different tasks, e.g. controlling the rudder, unwinding and reeling the sails or raising and lowering the anchor. Exploration also often involves battles between competing crews, where there is a similar division of duties. Here, however, it is additionally necessary to service the ship's cannons and repair possible damage to the ship, so that it does not get water and does not sink. In their free time, pirates can indulge in various pleasures, drinking grog or playing various pirate chants.
