Cities in Motion 2 is set in a modern metropolis. The player's task is to build, using the full range of means of transport, a functional communication system that meets the needs of the population and facilitate the development of the city.

Among the available vehicles for the first time appeared trolleybuses, which replaced helicopters present in the first game. The developers took care for a complete redesigning of timetables system, as well as greatly expanded options of ticket pricing. Cities in Motion 2 also allows you to build your own fragments of roads, choosing from a number of various types of road surface characterized by varied traffic.

As compared with the first game, the sequel offers more game modes. Players can try their hand in the main career or sandbox mode. There are also cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes.
